Hinge joint

A hinge joint is an articulation that connects two rigid bodies while allowing movement between them in one plane, such as the swinging motion of a door on its hinges. It functions by way of a paired bearing around a common fixed axis. Hinge joints are ubiquitous, and found in both man-made and biological systems. Hinge joints occur at the elbow and knee in the human body, allowing bending and straightening movement but not rotation.
